Invitational Tournament

A October Tradition Like No Other

Every October, as summer fades over the Newport coastline, St. Columba’s Cricket Club brings New England’s cricket community together for something special — the SCCC Invitational Tournament. Born in 1995 from a tradition started by the University of Rhode Island, the Invitational has become our club’s signature celebration of cricket, friendship, and heritage.

Over four weekends, up to 8 teams gather in Middletown to play competitive yet joyful cricket in the classic style: white kits, pink ball, and 20–25 over matches. It’s a format that honors the game’s roots while keeping the tempo lively and modern.

What truly sets the Invitational apart is the experience. We take care of scoring and umpiring, ensuring teams can focus purely on the game. Coffee, snacks, and warm hospitality keep players energized and connected. And the setting — open fields framed by the ocean breeze of Newport — makes every match feel memorable.

We welcome new teams each year. If your club wants to be part of this tradition, we’d love to hear from you.
