Play Cricket in Rhode Island and Massachusetts
St. Columba's Cricket Club
St. Columba’s Cricket Club is based in Newport/Middletown, Rhode Island, and competes across New England in the Massachusetts State Cricket League (MSCL). We welcome players from Rhode Island and the Greater Boston area – all skill levels, weekend cricket from April to November.
Our Story
Two Ways We Play
White-ball cricket
We field competitive teams in the Massachusetts State Cricket League, playing 40-over and T20 cricket in colored kit on weekends throughout the season. Whether you’re chasing wickets or a spot in the batting order, there’s a place here for you.

Red-ball cricket
Cricket in its traditional form – played in whites with a red ball. We host one of the few red-ball competitions in the United States, welcoming visiting clubs to our home ground each year. We also play red-ball games on weekends throughout the season – a regular chance to put on the whites.

Practice With Us
Weekly Indoor Session
New players are welcome at practice – just turn up. It’s the easiest way to meet the team, have a bat and bowl, and see if the club’s a fit before committing to a match.
Cricket For Good
Cricket at St. Columba’s is about more than the scoreboard.
In 2026, our annual charity match brought the community together and raised more than $2,000 for Rhode Home Rescue – one of the ways we give back to the place we call home.

In 2025, our annual charity match brought the community together and raised more than $1,500 for DORCAS IIRI and also donated countless school supplies – one of the ways we give back to the place we call home.

Red-Ball Invitational Tournament
Each year we welcome visiting clubs for our Red-Ball Invitational Tournament – traditional cricket, played in whites, on our home ground in Middletown. But the Invitational is about more than cricket: it’s about friendship, camaraderie, and celebrating the game we love. We’re always looking for more teams to take part – if your club would like to join us, get in touch. See full details on our Tournament page.
Life At Our Club
From match days to away trips – like our recent Florida tour – cricket at St. Columba’s is as much about the people as the game.
